WORK OF THE WEEK: Featuring Nina Maguire

                                   Nina Maguire, Central Park Winter, 2015
                          Acrylic on canvas with mounted rice paper, 24 x 30 in.

“My paintings are reflective of my world – people, situations and things that are closest to
me. When I paint I draw upon this attachment to capture a mood or emotion – a fleeting
impression of a time, place or state of mind - hopefully involving the viewer in the intimacy
of that moment.” - Nina Maguire

Maguire's winter scene illustrates a majestic snowy evening in New York’s Central Park.
The opacity of colors and the sensitivity of the light reflecting on the snow create a beautiful
and mysterious atmosphere. The effect of the foggy city skyline in the background and the
perspective of the curving ground in the foreground draw the viewer in to the scene, as if
experiencing it themselves.

Nina Maguire is the recipient of numerous awards for her excellence in acrylic painting;
her most recent honors include: The Women of Achievement Award for outstanding
professional accomplishment from her alma mater The College of New Rochelle (2015);
Second Prize in the Small Works Open Juried Show, Mamaroneck Artists Guild (2015),
the Allied Artists of America Award, Catharine Lorillard 118th Open Exhibition (2014);
First Place in the “Visions, 2014”, Mamaroneck Artists Guild Members Juried Award
Show (2014); Frank C. Wright Medal of Honor, American Artists Professional League
(2013); the Jamie Dworman Award, Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club (2012); and
The Winsor & Newton Award, National Society of Painters in Casein & Acrylic (2012).
